A unique or an unique

Today, I’ll talk about which is correct for grammar purpose ? a unique or an unique.

Normally, when students learn the use of articles, they focus only on one thing that is the first letter of the word.

They basically check, the first letter of the word is vowel or consonant.

In lower classes, teachers teach the students that if the first letter of the word is a consonant, use article a before it.

On the other hand, if the first letter of the word is a vowel, use article an before it.

But, this is completely wrong from the perspective of Indian English.

Actually, the rule is totally different.

This is why, I’m going to tell you the correct use of articles ( a & an ) in English grammar.

Here, in this article I’ll tell you about which is correct ? a unique or an unique and other the most important words which always confuse the students to use articles ( a & an ) before them.

Hence, without wasting your valuable time let’s dive into the article.

A unique or an unique ( which is correct ? ) –

Well, if you know the proper rules of using articles, there will be no confusion about which is correct ? a unique or an unique.

At the same time, if you don’t know the rules of using articles, I think that it will be a bit difficult to recognize the correct one a unique or an unique.

If you are new and finding the right answer of this question, which is correct ? a unique or an unique, the right answer is a unique.

Now, some students are thinking of how it’s possible.

I have read and learnt that if the first letter of the word is a vowel, we should use article an.

In the same way, here the first letter of the word ( unique ) is a vowel nevertheless we are using article a before it, why ?

Ok, no problem. if you are also having this confusion, I’m making you sure that you won’t have any problem from now while using articles ( a & an ).

If you are confused about how to use of present participles in the sentences, you can read the article by clicking the provided link.

How to use the articles ( a & an ) –

The basic rule of using articles is if the first letter of the word is a consonant, use article a and if the first letter of the word is a vowel, use article an.

Apart form this, when you use article an, you have to keep in your mind that the first letter of the word while pronouncing is following Hindi vowels as well.

It means, if the first letter of the word is following only English vowels but not following Hindi vowels while pronouncing, we don’t use article an before the word.

Moreover, if the first letter of the word is following only Hindi vowels but not following English vowels even then we use article an before the word.

It means, Hindi vowels dominate English vowels in Indian English grammar.

For example –

( a ) Unique –

It is a word the first letter of which is a vowel but while pronouncing it’s not following a Hindi vowel so here we won’t use article an.

For deeper understanding, let us take another example.

( b ) Heir –

Heir is a word the first letter of which isn’t a vowel but it’s following a Hindi vowel when it’s pronounced so here we’ll use article an before it.

Because, Hindi vowels dominate English vowels.

I hope that all your doubts have been cleared about which is correct ? a unique or an unique.
